Used Handguns
As of October 12, 2022, the federal Liberal and NDP coalition government put a “freeze” on the transfer of ownership of handguns.
In effect, this “freeze” bans the selling, purchasing, importation of, and even inheriting of handguns in Canada. While there are some exceptions, they are extremely rare. Those few who have an Authorization to Carry (ie a wilderness carry permit) or are “Olympic level competitive shooters” may still purchase handguns, but they will need to provide proof in order for the transfer to be completed.
